Frankie Gavin
Frankie Gavin has been playing fiddle and flute since his teens, winning All-Ireland titles for both at just seventeen. Influenced early on by legends like James Morrison and Michael Coleman, he’s gone on to perform with icons such as The Rolling Stones, Earl Scruggs, Les Paul, Stéphane Grappelli, James Galway, and Yehudi Menuhin. His distinctive, genre-crossing style reflects these diverse influences.

In 2010, Gavin set a world record as the fastest fiddle player, performing The Foxhunter’s Reel at 150 beats per minute. He’s played for four U.S. presidents—starting with JFK at age six—alongside dignitaries like President Mitterrand, King Charles III, Prince Albert of Monaco, and even the Pope.

He’s best known as the founder of De Dannan, the world-renowned Irish traditional band still active today. One of his recent works, The Princess Grace Symphonic Suite, premiered with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022 and is expected to tour internationally.

Dermot Byrne
Dermot Byrne is one of Ireland’s finest accordion players. A longtime member of Altan, he has toured globally and collaborated with the likes of Donal Lunny, Steve Cooney, and Stéphane Grappelli. He has also performed with Frankie Gavin, Paddy Keenan, Sharon Shannon, and The Stunning. In 2013, he was named TG4’s Traditional Musician of the Year. In 2022, he released two albums—one with Yvonne Casey and another with Steve Cooney.

Steve Cooney
Australian-born guitarist Steve Cooney is famed for revolutionizing Irish traditional accompaniment, especially in West Kerry. Since moving to Ireland in 1980, he’s played on over 250 albums as a guitarist, bassist, producer, and engineer. He’s collaborated with major figures in Irish, rock, and country music, while maintaining ties to his Aboriginal roots and Irish heritage.

In 2020, he received the RTÉ Folk Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. His recent projects include a solo guitar album of ancient harp tunes and upcoming releases with his band Éiníní, including Rhapsody and Rascality. A Ph.D. graduate, he lectures on music theory and created a unique notation system for learners with difficulties in traditional staff notation.

“Master Cooney restores the ancient link between lyre and lyric, between poetry and performance, the rhapsody and rascality.”
– Séamus Heaney, Fiddler’s Green Awards
