Aoife Scott with Ron Block
Aoife Scott, One of Ireland’s best Folk Artists second only to the legendary Christy Moore and up there with Lankum as voted by the readers of HOTPRESS music magazine 2021.
Following her highly celebrated debut album, Carry The Day, which was triumphantly launched at Temple Bar Tradfest in 2016 to rapturous acclaim, Aoife Scott released her much anticipated second album “Homebird” in January at the Temple Bar Trad Festival 2020
Produced by 12 time Grammy Award winner, banjo and guitar virtuoso Ron Block (Alison Krauss & Union Station, & ‘Oh Brother Where art thou), this latest album was recorded in Nashville and Dublin, “HomeBird” is an impressive collaboration featuring the best of Irish folk musicians and Grammy award winning Bluegrass musicians Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan and producer Ron Block. It is in many ways a turning point in her musical legacy.
This natural collaboration has led to Ron and Aoife performing across the US, Scotland and Ireland, Ron Block has been a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station since 1991. He plays banjo, lead and rhythm guitar, sings, and writes songs for the band, writes and produces his own solo records, does studio sessions, and teaches at bluegrass camps. He is the recipient of fourteen Grammy awards, six IBMA awards, a CMA award, and a Dove Bluegrass Song of the Year award for his song, “A Living Prayer.”
Throughout his life – and certainly throughout his extraordinary career – multi-instrumentalist Ron Block has been something of a musical Huck Finn, a tireless adventurer exploring various styles yet rooted firmly in the bluegrass-country tradition.
